God Wants To Talk To You…About You

Have you ever found yourself praying over and over again for the same thing as if God didn’t hear you the first time? You are crying out to God because you feel lost and do not know what to do or what direction to go in. After praying relentlessly, you find yourself wanting to give up because it is as if God is not hearing your prayers or you are not worthy of what you are praying for.  I will be the first to admit, that I have been there and at times I still have to pause, unplug and check myself. So, if you have found yourself in this position let me ease your mind by letting you know that God hears you loud and clear. God even hears the prayers you don’t pray but keep locked away in your heart. God has never left you, so instead of wondering if God is listening to your prayers, ask yourself if you are listening for His voice. In today’s world, we can be so consumed by our everyday activities, devices and wrapped up in the highlight reels of other people’s lives that we become deaf to God’s voice.

Having access to the world at our fingertips is something amazing and powerful, but it can also keep you from living a fulfilled life of purpose if not managed well. So, unplugging a bit from the world has the potential to change the entire trajectory of your life for the better. Taking time to unplug and connect more with God has boundless benefits.

Some of those benefits include:

  • Hearing God’s voice more clearly.

  • Draining out the distracting voices of the world.

  • Eliminating distractions.

  • Gaining clarity on the direction you should take in life

  • Filling the empty voids within you and fulfilling what you have been longing for.

  • Finding out who you really are according to the one who created you.

  • Understanding your purpose and God’s will for your life.

In 2015, I went through a period in which I lost myself to the point I couldn’t even recognize who was looking back at me in the mirror. I kept praying to God asking him “What I was on this Earth for?”  I longed for some sort of purpose to fulfill that would speak more clearly to who the heck I was because I surely didn’t know.  I would pray and pray and then without even pausing to give God a chance to love on me and speak to me, I would go about filling my day up with work, tv, and aimless phone scrolling.

I spent so much time looking at what others were doing on social media and sizing that up against what I was doing. This led to me spending even more time feeling sorry for myself because I couldn’t imagine moving behind the point in life I was currently at. I felt this way until one day I did what many of us do when we hit a brick wall and have no where else to go. I opened my Bible hoping to find a verse that would make me feel better about myself. After paging through my Bible, I ended up at Proverbs 3:6.

“In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.”

After reading this scripture, instead of feeling better about myself, I felt convicted and challenged. I felt convicted because I wasn’t praying to understand God’s will and purpose for my life. I was just complaining and praying for him to wave his magic wand and change my situation so I can feel better. However, God was trying to do more than just change my situation. He wanted to change my life.

I also felt convicted because I wasn’t praying and listening to God’s direction. My prayers were one way instead of a two-way conversation. I wasn’t giving God the chance to speak, especially when his response was different than what I had in mind. From that day on, I felt challenged to pray to God for understanding of His will. More importantly, I needed to make room for God to direct me no matter if it matched my vision or not.

It is one thing to talk about why you should unplug and connect more with God, but how do you do that? Well, here are 3 things you can do to unplug and reconnect with God.

  1. Prioritize time with God. MAKE ROOM!

  2. Give up social media until your relationship with God is strengthened.

  3. Create boundaries for the people and things in your life.

So, I challenge you to pick one thing that you will do to unplug, reconnect with God, and further your life!
